bladesbot: (surprise)
Just a heads up to anyone I owe tags to (which is pretty much everyone! o_o), I'm sorry but school and work have been eating me lately. I have midterms and finals and projects all coming due at once. Hopefully after tonight I should be able to go back to tagging normally. So thanks for your patience!

Character Information
*Character Name: Blades
*Character Canon: Transformers: Rescue Bots
*Age: Young-ish.
*Race: Cybertronian
*Timeline/Pull Point: During “Bot to the Future” when they were going back to their own Griffin Rock after grabbing Dither from Doctor Morocco, Blades ended up somewhere else entirely.

*History: Not all bots were made for battle. Blades was one of those that was better suited to gardening or scrap metal arranging. Too bad there was none of that on Cybertron. There was, however, a need for Search and Rescue bots, so that's what Blades did. He wanted to help bots, not hurt them, and he wanted to be as far from battle as possible. He was the type that went into the mines when there was a collapse to find any survivors.

Before the war broke out, his assigned team, Sigma-17, went off-planet to assist bots in need in other parts of the galaxy. They went into stasis for a long travel to a distant solar system, but their ship forgot to wake them up until they received a message from Optimus Prime that redirected them to arrive on Earth, where they were greeted by Optimus Prime himself.

They were given the mission to join a family of humans in rescuing an oddly accident-prone island with advanced technologies, keeping the peaceful team far away from battle still. Blades was made to take a helicopter alt-mode, which he did not like, and with his pushy partner Dani he and the other members of Sigma-17 became the rescue squad for the island of Griffin Rock. Some crazy ordeals and time travel later, Blades ended up here.

*Personality:
Young and extremely naive at times, Blades is one of those bots who generally just wants to have fun and avoid danger all together. Sure, he'll be right there when others need him, but that's because he's a rescue bot--not so much a fighter.

As a rescue bot, Blades has a pretty huge sense of duty. Even with his fear of flying and his hesitations about his own abilities, he won't hesitate to jump to the rescue if he's needed and will assist his fellow rescue bots and the humans they work with however they need. Helping others is and will always be a main priority for the copter-bot, even if the situation may seem bleak at times and he wants nothing more than to hide in the bunker again. You can really tell if Blades doesn't like the task at hand when he starts loudly complaining about it. Nevertheless, he'll do it. Just loudly.

Younger than most of his teammates, Blades still has a lot to learning to do and it definitely shows at times. He has a childlike innocence to him, never wanting to assume the worst in anyone, and he's never really dealt with a Decepticon on his own before. (Or battle in general, if we're going to be completely honest.) Blades is genuinely curious about everything around him and wants to learn, though sometimes he does get ahead of himself and tends to get himself into trouble sometimes without really meaning to. He's also quite the little fanboy, very much in awe of bots like Optimus Prime, and especially Bumblebee whom he admires quite a bit.

Blades, as mentioned before, is rather terrified of heights and would much rather stay on the ground if given the choice. It's a fear that he's working to overcome but sometimes he can hinder his reaction time when in the midst of a rescue, especially if something happens to cause him to lose control of what he's doing. It's during these times that Blades needs someone to gently reassure him that he can do it because he, himself, has forgotten that he can. He tries his best, though, even with the huge limitation weighing down on him, and wants nothing more than to make the other heroes proud of him--even if that means flying as high as he possibly can.

There are times when Blades feels as though he isn't a valuable member of the team, times when he feels like he can't do anything right. Being so young and not knowing as much as the others, he tends to make a lot of mistakes that can anger those around him even if they aren't exactly mad at him and more the situation itself. He tends to shy away sometimes and slip off by himself, needing to just regain his confidence in himself and maybe find someone that he can talk to and just relax around. Time and time again, though, Blades has proven himself a worthwhile rescue bot; he just needs to keep all those times in mind instead of dwelling on the bad.

All in all, Blades is just a very light sparked bot who just wants to fit in and do his best no matter what fate has to throw at him. Always look at the positive!...Right?

*Powers/Abilities: Can fly fairly well, great at complaining, good memory for Earth media such as movies and television, very very basic knowledge of human biology and first aid (probably too panicky or fumbling to use it).
*Inventory: A box of Kashi cereal Dani left in him for snacking purposes, 1 gallon jug of purified water, 500 feet of industrial-strength rope, an EMT's fully stocked medical bag which includes everything listed here, plus BP cuff, stethoscope, 2 epipens, Tylenol, zinc supplements, ibuprofen, IV kit, manual suction bag + mask, AED, finger pulse oximeter, and an oxygen tank. He feels very full, but Dani insists on being prepared as a med evac vehicle.
*Starting Polarity: Nexus Prime

If AU, how does your character differ from canon?: N/A

Writing Samples
*First Person Sample: Optional Prompt: Your best friend/ally/accomplice/favorite minion has gone missing, and you suspect they're on the planet somewhere. Make a broadcast that indicates your need for their return, and describes this individual to help others identify them.
[Blades stared into the camera for a moment silently, then startled when he noticed the blinking light.] Oh! It's working! Um, hello. I'm Blades of the Sigma-17 rescue squad. I'm... not actually sure where I am... [He looks around behind him, trying to spot something, anything, but gives up and shrugs, turning back to the camera.] But I'm looking for my friend Cody. And all my friends, actually, but mostly Cody. Oh! And also Frankie! They're both humans, so I don't know how they're going to manage on this planet. Actually... I think maybe I'm the one that needs them. Frankie has all the machines that make things work, after all... [The orange bot sighs, rolling his optics.] I'm a little helpless, I guess. Anyhow, if you see two young children, a boy and a girl, running around please tell me! The Chief says you should always stick together when you're lost, and I'm pretty sure I'm lost right now! See you around, whoever's out there. [A friendly smile and a wave at the camera, then he reaches into the line of sight to shut it off.]

*Third Person Sample:Optional Prompt: You wake up in the middle of a vast, unfamiliar, rocky terrain, underneath a strange sky. Who do you call for? What do you do?
Alone. He was alone. And really this wasn't a problem, but it was just so dark, and where were the others?

“C-Cody? Frankie?” They'd been right there with him, after all. Gosh, why was it so dark? Oh, silly Blades. He turned on his searchlight as he remembered it, shining it over his surroundings and turning a quick, jerky circle. “Heatwave? Chase? Boulder?” They'd been there too, after all. He could really use Chase's level-headed analysis of the situation right now.

Blades clasped his hands in front of his chest, accidentally blocking his searchlight a bit. When he saw the shadow this caused, he jumped and made a terrified noise, running at top speed to the nearest rock to hide behind. “Wh-who's there?!” he asked the empty air, peering out from behind his safety rock slowly, hands shaking. There was no one there, though, no matter where he pointed his spotlight. He sighed and took a seat on the rock he'd just used for cover, resting his elbows on his knees and his head in his hands.

“Optimus?” he called weakly after a moment. “Bumblebee?” Where were they? Were they safe? And where was he? This really didn't look like a good situation at all.

“Well, nothing to do but... Find your bearings,” he mumbled to himself, standing up and looking around. He could get a better view from the air, but... Best to just walk, huh? And so he did.

Final Notes: Given a small medical background that wasn't present in the show because it's stupid to have a Search and Rescue Helicopter without medical response abilities. He still doesn't know how to use most of it.
